Taylor Swift Talks Feminism, Misogyny in Maxim:

Fresh off debuting the star-studded "Bad Blood" music video at the Billboard Music Awards and winning eight trophies, Taylor Swift added another achievement to her growing résumé when she was named Number One on Maxim's annual Hot 100 list. In the interview that accompanied the lad mag's crowning, Swift used the opportunity to talk in depth about her circle of friends, her upcoming tour, feminism and misogyny.

"Honestly, I didn't have an accurate definition of feminism when I was younger. I didn't quite see all the ways that feminism is vital to growing up in the world we live in," Swift told the magazine over her avoidance of the issue earlier in her career. "I think that when I used to say, 'Oh, feminism's not really on my radar,' it was because when I was just seen as a kid, I wasn't as threatening. I didn't see myself being held back until I was a woman."

Swift also attacked the "double standards in headlines" and "double standards in the way things are perceived." "A man writing about his feelings from a vulnerable place is brave; a woman writing about her feelings from a vulnerable place is oversharing or whining," Swift said. "Misogyny is ingrained in people from the time they are born. So to me, feminism is probably the most important movement that you could embrace, because it's just basically another word for equality."

In 2014, Swift credited her friendship with Girls creator/actress Lena Dunham – who appeared in the "Bad Blood" video as a kingpin named Lucky Fiori – as a catalyst for her sudden openness to discuss these issues. "She runs her own company, she's creating music that connects to other women instead of creating a sexual persona for the male gaze and no one is in control of her," Dunham told Rolling Stone in 2014. "If that's not feminism, what is?"

As for Swift's burgeoning cadre of all-star friends – take the entire cast of the "Bad Blood" video and add the Haim sisters – Swift said, "Thankfully, 10 years into my career now, I've learned how to work in a smarter way. You have to have time to breathe and have a happy life, and friendships are so important to me. Thankfully – thanks to the fans – now we get to play stadiums, so we do two or three stadium shows a week. I'll see my friends in whichever city I'm closer to."

Pete Townshend Releases Political New Song 'Guantanamo' for 70th Birthday:

Pete Townshend celebrated his 70th birthday Tuesday with the release of the politically charged new track "Guantanamo" that will be featured on his upcoming solo compilation Truancy: The Very Best of Pete Townshend. As evidenced by the title, the new song is about the American military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "Down in Guantanamo, we still got the ball and chain," he sings. "There's a long road to travel for justice to make its claim."

"I thought this song might never see the light of day," Townshend said in a statement. "But now [that] President Obama has relaxed sanctions in Cuba, it is a happy sign he might go further. Technically this was created in rather a laborious way. I recorded a long organ drone using my vintage Yamaha E70 organ (used many times by me on Who and solo recordings in the past), and then cut it into something that sounded like a song using a feature unique to Digital Performer called 'chunks.' This creates blocks of groups of tracks that can be assembled and disassembled easily, like cutting multitrack analogue tape with a razor blade, but with less blood. The lyric grew out of the implicit angry frustration in the organ tracks."

The only other new track on the LP is "How Can I Help You." "[It] was inspired partly by the frustrating emotional difficulties experienced by a valued colleague," Townshend said. "He was in great physical pain and it drove him into depression. I performed an acoustic version of the song on my partner Rachel Fuller's webcast show 'In the Attic.' I began this recording with an acoustic guitar, added drum loops and breaks then Gretsch and Rickenbacker 12-string guitars and John Entwistle's hybrid Thunderbird-Fender Precision bass."

Other Townshend solo tracks on the album - which hits stores on June 30th - include "Let My Love Open The Door," "Rough Boys," "Sheraton Gibson" and "The Sea Refuses No River." "I hope it offers a selection that works to introduce new fans to my solo work," he says. "I am a bit of a dabbler, I'm afraid. I am as interested in building, developing and playing with recording studios as I am with making music. The Who has taken up most of my road hours, and in this year of the 50th anniversary of our first significant year in 1965, we are back on the road again."

Townshend hasn't released a new solo album since 1993's Psychoderelict. "If I did [make a new album], I think I would want it to be something that really addressed everything that's going on in the world at the moment," he told Rolling Stone earlier this year. "I'm old enough and wise enough and stupid enough and have done enough dangerous shit to say pretty much whatever I like. It won't be popular, but nobody can hurt me now, really. When it comes to doing that work, I have to live with it for a while. I've written a couple in the last five or six years. I don't know whether I want to put an album out right now."

The Who are in the middle of the American leg of their 50th anniversary tour. Townshend recently played a benefit show with Eddie Vedder in Chicago (click here for a chance to win a guitar the Pearl Jam frontman signed at the event), and next week, Bruce Springsteen well present him with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his work supporting the MusiCares MAP Fund at a New York ceremony.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit were heading to Orlando when they heard about B.B. King's death last Friday morning. "B.B. King wasn't just a famous blues singer," Isbell wrote in an early morning tweet. "He was a truly incredible guitar player. Didn't give a damn about chords. You can't sing a chord."

That night, during a headlining show at the Plaza Theatre, Isbell and company paid tribute to the blues legend by kickstarting their encore with a cover of "The Thrill Is Gone." King's version of the song — released in late 1969, while he was wrapping up a month-long American tour opening for the Rolling Stones — had been a cover, too, with King modifying the Roy Hawkins original by adding strings, taking out the horns and dialing up the heartbreak. In that vein, Isbell put a personal spin on his band's own performance, transforming "The Thrill Is Gone" from an ode to crumbled love into a tribute to a larger-than-life bluesman who dished out plenty of thrills himself.

There weren't any Lucilles onstage. Instead, Isbell's Duesenberg Fullerton Elite and Sadler Vaden's American Strat shared the spotlight equally, both guitars letting out controlled bursts of bluesy firepower. It was an inspired, one-off performance — a chance, as Isbell explained during the introduction, "to play the kind of music we grew up on" — and the guys kept things at a low simmer, never once letting the song boil over into an indulgent solo-fest. The King would've been proud.

The third annual Life Is Beautiful Music & Art Festival will invade downtown Las Vegas September 25th through 27th, and this year the fest will welcome headliners Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, Duran Duran and hometown rockers Imagine Dragons. Hozier, Kid Cudi, Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie and the Killers' Brandon Flowers, a Sin City native, will also be onboard for the fest, which expanded to three days in 2014 after a successful inaugural festival in 2013.

Other artists recruited for the genre-spanning fest are Run the Jewels, Metric, Ghostface Killah, Awolnation, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Best Coast, Atmosphere, Walk the Moon, Twenty One Pilots and more. The festival will feature four stages, one of which will be curated by dance music promotion company Insomniac and feature Thievery Corporation, Porter Robinson, Major Lazer and DJ Snake, among others.

In addition to the music, the Vegas fest boasts a world-class culinary lineup, with dozens of the city's top chefs and restaurants setting up shop downtown to feed the festivalgoers. Life Is Beautiful also houses an extensive art exhibition. Tickets for the festival are available now at the Life Is Beautiful site.

Earlier this year, Wonder tacked on 11 dates to his Songs in the Key of Life tour, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer hasn't appeared in concert since that trek wrapped up April 14th in Newark, New Jersey. While Lamar has staged a few promotional performances in support of his acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly, the rapper will rev up his live activity this summer with festival gigs including Seattle, Washington's Sasquatch, Columbia, Maryland's Sweetlife, New Jersey's Hot 97 Summer Jam, Bonnaroo, Milwaukee's Summerfest and Montreal's Osheaga.

Gloriana Ready First New Album in Three Years:

Country trio Gloriana have announced their aptly-titled third studio album, Three, to be released on June 2nd. Produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul), it's the band's first album since 2012's A Thousand Miles Left Behind.

"We can't wait for you guys to hear this," said the group's Rachael Reinert on their official YouTube page. "We know it's been a really, really long time coming and I think it's our best body of work so far. . . Super excited to finally get it out to y'all."

The album's first single, "Trouble," is currently rising in the Top 25 of Billboard's Country Airplay chart. Co-written by Reinert and the band's Mike Gossin, along with Jon Nite and Ross Copperman, the sassy track mixes country imagery and instrumentation with a grooving, danceable beat. Twelve tracks in total, Three also features songs from Nashville A-listers like Eric Paslay, Will Hoge, Josh Kear and Danny Myrick.

In choosing the title Three, the band, which also includes Tom Gossin, seems to be hinting at multiple layers of deeper meaning. It's the group's third studio album, it's been three years since their last full-length release, and the group famously shrunk to three members when vocalist and mandolin player Cheyenne Kimball abruptly quit the band in 2011.

Gloriana scored their first hit in 2009 with "Wild at Heart," and in 2012 landed a platinum-selling Top 10 smash with "(Kissed You) Good Night." The band will play Colusa, California, on Friday as part of their summer tour.

Luke Bryan has announced Kill the Lights as his fifth studio album. The reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year broke the news on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and revealed the album will be released on August 7th.

During his Ellen appearance, Bryan also performed the album's lead single, "Kick the Dust Up," which debuted at country radio on Tuesday and doubles as the name of his summer tour.

With its thumping backbeat and quirky banjo hook, "Kick the Dust Up" slams the bar scene in favor of a backwoods bonfire, with Bryan singing that he'd rather hang in a dusty field with a jar full of "clear" than stand in line for $10 drinks. "We've been performing the new song on tour this spring, using it to open the shows," Bryan said in a statement. "We love the crowd reaction to it and I cannot wait to be able to share more new music this summer. It's been two years since we've had a new album and I don't think I've been this eager yet to get it out to the fans."

Bryan will also perform the new single — penned by "That's My Kind of Night" songwriters Dallas Davidson, Ashley Gorley and Chris DeStefano — on tonight's season finale of The Voice and is planning a special performance on Good Morning America on the album's release date.

Crash My Party, Bryan's last album, has already sold over two million physical copies and eight million digital downloads. The Georgia native counts nearly seven million album sales and 27 million digital downloads in his career, including 12 Number One singles.

His Kick the Dust Up Tour is scheduled to continue through October, including seven stadium concerts. A special all-Luke exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, "Luke Bryan: Dirt Road Diary," is set to open May 22nd.

Spoon Cover The Cramps' Haunted Punk Boogie, 'TV Set':

Spoon have offered up a shiver-inducing cover of the Cramps' maniacal cut "TV Set," a fitting contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming reboot of the Eighties horror franchise, Poltergeist.

Though more hi-fi than the Cramps' original off their 1980 LP, Songs the Lord Taught Us, Spoon's rendition of "TV Set" is otherwise faithful. They deftly capture the song's screeching guitars and stomping boogie, while singer Britt Daniel taps into the soul of late frontman Lux Interior and delivers the song's eerie lyrics — "Yeah baby I see you on my TV set / I cut your head off and put it in my TV set" — in a quivering, possessed bellow. The song is also available now on iTunes.

Poltergeist opens in theaters on May 22nd. Like the 1982 original, the film tells the story of a suburban family terrorized by ghosts that capture their youngest daughter. The movie stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt; it was directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House) and counts horror maven Sam Raimi among its producers.

As for Spoon, the group recently released a hypnotic, slow-moving video for "Inside Out," a track off their 2014 album, They Want My Soul. The LP marked the group's eighth studio album and first since 2010's Transference. While Spoon debuted new song "Satellite" live last December, drummer-producer Jim Eno told Billboard last year there might be another delay between albums, especially if Daniel and guitarist Alex Fischel record another Divine Fits record.

In the meantime, Spoon have a slew of North American tour dates lined up for the spring and summer, including stops at Sasquatch! and the inaugural Eaux Claires Festival curated by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.

Country star and expert guitar shredder Brad Paisley gets the honor of opening for the legendary Rolling Stones when their summer stadium tour stops in Nashville. Taking place June 17th at Music City's LP Field, the show is part of the Stones' 15-city Zip Code North American Tour.

Paisley made the announcement Tuesday in a series of tweets.

"May I have your attention please," the notorious smart aleck began. "So it's been a while since I was an opening act. But I think I remember how to do that. . ."

"So proud to warm up for the greatest rock band in the world June 17, LP Field Zip Code Tour," he wrote, later adding "I've never been tempted to frame a tweet before now."

This won't be the first time Paisley has collaborated with the seemingly immortal rock & roll pioneers. He also shared the stage with them in Philadelphia in June of 2013, singing a verse and taking a blazing guitar solo during the Stones' countrified classic, "Dead Flowers."

The Rolling Stones' Zip Code tour kicks off May 24th in San Diego before visiting cities including Dallas, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Buffalo, and wraps July 15th in Quebec. This will be the first time the band has performed in North American stadiums since their massive A Bigger Bang tour, which ran from 2005—2007.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead, the band's surviving "core four" members will reunite for five concerts in Chicago and Santa Clara, California, starting in late June. But as contributing editor David Browne reports in the magazine's eye-opening cover story (on newsstands this Friday), the road to these celebratory "Fare Thee Well" shows has been a strange and twisty one. Featuring interviews with the band's Bob Weir, Phish's Trey Anastasio (who will be filling in for the late Jerry Garcia at the shows), concert promoter Peter Shapiro and others, the story is the most comprehensive peek inside the world of the post-Garcia Dead and the preparation for what the group is calling its "last stand."

Even for well-read Deadheads, the article will be an surprising look into how the band members grappled with life and music without their charismatic anti-leader and how they managed to overcome frayed relationships and reunite one last time for the historic concerts this summer. The story explores the post-Garcia business issues that often came between the musicians – Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart – and the fraught reunion tours that led some to wonder if they would ever reunite again. As Hart told RS in previously unpublished comments from 2012, "Maybe time will heal a lot of the bad feelings we felt . . . As long as we're above ground, anything is possible."

Browne explores the delicate planning that went into the "Fare Thee Well" shows and the obstacles that had be overcome: from initial concerns about the impact of Kreutzmann's candid, just-published memoir to Weir's shoulder surgery and neck-strain issues, which, he reveals, require him to practice blindfolded ("I have to realign myself and my posture to play the instrument"). "It was a process," says Shapiro, who made his first attempt to reunite the band a decade ago, for its 40th anniversary. "They each wanted to do it in their own way with their own vision. We had to get to a place where it all came together."

The article also features the most up-to-date information on the often-secretive rehearsals that have been taking place between Anastasio and the band members in both New York and California. Fans will relish a new, exclusive photo of Lesh, Weir and Anastasio working on Dead songs at Lesh's Marin County club, Terrapin Crossroads, in early May. "It's going to be a work in progress until we walk off the stage that last night in July," Weir tells RS. "Just like always."

As Memphis' Beale Street prepares to remember B.B. King's legacy at a memorial procession Wednesday, the bluesman's estate has hit back at allegations that King's business manager LaVerne Toney poisoned him in the months leading up to his May 14th death. In a statement, a lawyer for the estate says that King's daughters' allegations are "baseless and unfounded and are unsupported in reality."

"Unfortunately even musical icons die. Ms. Toney did everything she could to carry out the wishes of Mr. King while he was alive, and continues to carry out Mr. King's wishes after his death," Brent Bryson, the attorney for King's estate, said in a statement. "I hope over these next few days we can focus on Mr. King's musical gifts to the world and not fictional statements made by those seeking attention at the expense of Mr. King."

Nevada investigators have opened a homicide probe and conducted an autopsy after two of King's daughters, Karen Williams and Patty King, said in separate affidavits that they believe their father was administered an unknown substance on a nightly basis prior to his death. After being hospitalized for dehydration related to diabetes in April, King was later moved to a hospice facility, where King's family claim Toney cut off access to the bluesman.

Williams and Patty King also said in their affidavit that they believe their father was "murdered" by Toney and King's personal assistant Myron Johnson. However, Bryson, the attorney for the King estate of which Toney was appointed executor, provided statements from three doctors, including King's primary care physician, that King "was monitored on a 24-hour basis by Certified Nursing Assistants" and that "no action [was] taken to hasten the demise of Mr. King," who died "peacefully in his sleep."

Larissa Drohobyczer, the attorney representing King's daughters, declined to comment to Rolling Stone when asked about Bryson's statement. The statement, in full, below:

Recently allegations have been made accusing LaVerne Toney of wrongdoing involving the death of Riley B. King (B. B. King). The allegations are baseless and unfounded and are unsupported in reality.

Up until the time that Mr. King passed peacefully in his sleep, Mr. King was monitored on a 24-hour basis by Certified Nursing Assistants.

Additionally, Mr. King was visited regularly by Registered Nurses. Mr. King was evaluated by no less than three (3) independent doctors in the days before his death.

Dr. Darin Brimhall (Mr. King's primary care physician for several years) stated there is no action being taken to hasten the demise of Mr. King and every effort is being made to make Mr. King comfortable and supply him with his regular medication and nourishment."

Dr. Dean Tsai, an independent doctor, asked to render a second opinion stated, "In my medical judgment patient is appropriate for hospice with a very limited expected prognosis (l would estimate weeks). He clearly has had significant decline and I see no reversible component. He is currently getting home hospice care which is entirely appropriate given his known wishes and clinical status."

Dr. Ivan Goldsmith gave a third independent opinion stating: "Home hospice care is entirely appropriate in this situation. There is no evidence of poly pharmacy or inappropriate medications being given to Mr. King."

Unfortunately even musical icons die. Ms. Toney did everything she could to carry out the wishes of Mr. King while he was alive, and continues to carry out Mr. King's wishes after his death. I hope over these next few days we can focus on Mr. King's musical gifts to the world and not fictional statements made by those seeking attention at the expense of Mr. King.

In the five years since Broadway veteran Laura Bell Bundy broke into country music's Top Five with her album Achin' and Shakin', fans of the Kentucky native have seen her in various acting roles, from Anger Management to How I Met Your Mother, but hadn't heard much about her music. That began to change earlier this month when the bubbly blonde announced her upcoming LP, Another Piece of Me, set for release June 9th on Big Machine Records.

And although the title of her new single and video, "I Am What I Am," may at first conjure up images of Popeye, the singer-actress is actually channeling Julie Andrews' Maria in The Sound of Music — she sings from a Swiss mountaintop in key scenes from the gorgeous clip. Directed by Becky Fluke, "I Am What I Am" was filmed while Bundy was in Switzerland to perform at a country-music event, and has the singer delivering the inspirational lyrics — about living life to the fullest and staying true to one's self — while her co-stars hold up signs describing some of their own key traits like "strong" or "silly."

"There is not another place in nature I feel more connected to my higher source than in the mountains," Bundy said in a statement. "So when I found out I'd be performing at the Gstaad Country Music Festival – in the midst of the Alps and the same setting as my favorite film, The Sound of Music – I was stoked. Filming in the same place Maria von Trapp sang seemed like the perfect place to tell that story, a story about being OK with being yourself and feeling free. I want to send the message that being who you are is not only a beautiful courageous thing, it's a necessary thing."

Of the LP's 15 tracks, Bundy co-wrote more than half, with songwriters including Sugarland's Kristian Bush, Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Barry Dean, Natalie Hemby and Ashley Monroe also contributing to the project.

Bundy will be in Nashville Friday, June 12th, for CMA Music Festival, performing on the Belk Park Stage.

Ornette Coleman Files Lawsuit Over Alleged Unauthorized Album:

It had been nearly 20 years since jazz legend Ornette Coleman released a studio album when a new LP donning the saxophonist's name titled New Vocabulary arrived quietly in 2014. A year later, Coleman has filed a federal lawsuit against Antibalas' Jordan McLean and drummer Amir Ziv for releasing New Vocabulary without Coleman's "consent or knowledge."

In the lawsuit, Coleman claims that he was introduced to trumpeter McLean, who worked on the Broadway musical Fela!, in 2009. Around that time, Coleman invited McLean and Ziv over to his house to "share his knowledge" of jazz. Those teaching sessions were recorded and, years later, when McLean asked Coleman if he could release those tapes, the jazz great denied the request.

Attempts by Coleman's attorneys to procure those recordings failed, and McLean allegedly ended up issuing those sessions – with extra instrumentation – as New Vocabulary.

"Without plaintiff's knowledge or consent, defendants McLean and Ziv made audio recordings of one or more live musical performances by plaintiff," Coleman's lawyers state in the complaint. "Without plaintiff's consent, defendants have reproduced, communicated to the public, publicly distributed, sold, transmitted and trafficked in copies…of the infringing recordings under the title New Vocabulary."

Representatives for Coleman and Ziv did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

In addition to releasing the collaboration without permission, Coleman alleges that New Vocabulary credits "an individual not recorded at the sessions" with participating, most likely referring to pianist Adam Holzman, who is listed as a fellow collaborator. Coleman also accuses McLean of adding music atop the recordings that were made. Lastly, the lawsuit claims, "The public is likely to be misled into believing that Coleman approves of, or is affiliated with, the public release of these recordings." It's unclear how much financial compensation Coleman is seeking in the federal suit.

"As a direct consequence of defendant's wrongful conduct, plaintiff has suffered and is suffering irreparable harm and has sustained substantial injury, loss and damage," the suit claims.

With 264 residents spread over six square miles, Sparta — a former railroad stop that sits 45 minutes south of Cincinnati — is one Kentucky's smallest cities. Come August 28th, though, the local population will swell to more than 30,000, thanks to a new three-day music festival co-headlined by Miranda Lambert, Hank Williams Jr., Brantley Gilbert and other country heavyweights.

Announced this morning, the NiFi Festival is the first in a series of national fests launched by Nitro Fidelity, a California-based entertainment group, and Speedway Motorsports, Inc., the auto racing corporation that owns eight of America's most popular speedways. Working together, the two companies plan to host top-tier festivals at more than half of Speedway's racing tracks over the next decade, including an event at the Texas Motor Speedway in 2016 and, if all goes according to plan, a Sonoma Speedway festival that could rival California-area events like Coachella and Outside Lands.

The inaugural NiFi Fest, which kicks off August 28th at the Kentucky Speedway and runs through the 30th, will model itself after camping festivals like the upcoming Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee. Top Chef contestant Edward Lee is heading up the food operations, and Huka Entertainment's A.J. Nyland — who helped launch festivals like Hangout and Tortuga — is booking the entertainment. On the lineup are a handful of A-list rock bands, including Green Day and Kings of Leon, as well as some of country music's biggest acts: Lambert, Gilbert, Williams, Jake Owen, Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, Josh Turner, Jana Kramer, Nikki Lane and others. Early bird tickets start at $245, with VIP passes and deluxe camping packages — or "glamping," as NiFi Fest's website calls it — driving up the price for well-heeled attendees.

Tickets go on sale Thursday morning at 10 a.m. ET.

A previously unreleased letter that George Harrison wrote to Atlanta DJ Paul Drew in May of 1966 reveals that the Beatles seriously contemplated recording at Stax in Memphis with producer Jim Stewart before the plan was derailed by financial issues. "We would all like it a lot," Harrison wrote by hand, "but too many people get insane with money ideas at the mention of the word 'Beatles,' and so it fell through!"

Word of the proposed Stax sessions has circulated before, but it was always said they pulled out due to security issues. It was also never known they contemplated working with Jim Stewart as opposed to George Martin, the only producer they'd ever worked with until the end of their career three years later.

The letter was recently put on sale by Los Angeles-based rock collectibles dealer Jeff Gold, who acquired it from Drew's widow shortly after he passed away in 2013. "When I read the Stax part I was like, 'What the hell is this?'" says Gold. "I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about this stuff, and I knew it was a major revelation."

The letter, which was postmarked May 7th, 1966, was written when the Beatles were in the early stages of recording Revolver. "The album we are making now should be out around October," Harrison wrote. "But I hear Capitol will make an intermediate album with unused tracks from Rubber Soul, a few old singles and about two or three of the new tracks we have just cut…Well I am off to the studio any minute, as soon as John and Ringo arrive." That "intermediate" album would eventually be released as Yesterday and Today.

"The general assessment is that Capitol did pretty much whatever they wanted with Beatles records," Gold says. "To see that George had a very specific understanding of what Yesterday and Today was going to be before it came out was kind of a revelation too. It surprised me."

Drew was a powerful radio DJ and program director who traveled with the Beatles on their 1964 and 1965 world tour and grew close to the group. Harrison began his letter by thanking him for sending over records by Edwin Starr and Mrs. Miller, the latter a largely forgotten American singer who released off-key rendition of songs like "Downtown" and "Moon River."

Gold is selling the letter for $20,000, and he estimates it will move quickly. "It's just so special," he says. "More people collect the Beatles than anyone else. Bob Dylan is right up there, as are The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. It depends on what you find, but the Beatles are the most widely-collected artist."

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith received the "Livin' the Dream" award at Little Kids Rock's first ever Family Jam, raising over $85,000 to help provide music education for students.

The Family Jam took place at Facebook's headquarters last week, and Smith attended to accept the award created in honor of former Facebook head chef Josef Desimone, who died in a motorcycle accident in 2013.

Smith jammed onstage with young Chili Peppers fans and told Rolling Stone about the importance of philanthropy. "Music has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember, and it's pretty cool to be in a position to give back," the drummer says. "Thanks to Little Kids Rock for taking the lead and building such an amazing organization.

"It's so important to keep music education alive in our schools, and to dedicate resources to giving back to the next generation of music makers," Smith continues. "I'm committed to doing everything I can to support this effort, and Saturday's event at Facebook was an absolute blast. Who knows — maybe some of the kids we jammed with will be the next Red Hot Chili Peppers!"

The video shows highlights of the event, including Smith joining Little Kids Rock students for a performance of Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2002 hit "Can't Stop." "Music is the lifeblood of our culture and music has saved my life many times over," Smith says in the video. "Everyone should have the opportunity to be involved, in some way, in music."

Smith has been a huge supporter and fundraiser for music education. His drum battle against look-a-like Will Ferrell on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon helped benefit Little Kids Rock as well as Cancer for College, an organization that helps give college scholarships to cancer patients. Smith also participated in a White House talent show last year alongside the Obamas, Sarah Jessica Parker and Alfre Woodard to help raise awareness for arts education.
